New ED Service: Virtual Board Rounds

New ED Service: Virtual Board Rounds14 Aug 2023

We’re already working with many hospital emergency departments (EDs) around the country. Our ED partners use our online Emergency Medicine Specialists for after-hours support or surge management or triage fast track or to see and treat lower acuity patients.

Now there’s a new service offering to help EDs free up in-person resources – virtual board rounds.

Board rounds (or "whiteboards") have become common practice to quickly pull together multi-disciplinary ED staff, at regular intervals around-the-clock, to ensure consistent patient management and integrated care.

These stand-up sessions are designed to keep the department moving - but are reliant on senior medical input - which is already stretched thin.

Using telehealth we are able to include a fresh emergency medicine Fellow (FACEM) in the huddle.

Regular check-ins with a reputable FACEM helps reduce stress and uncertainty. Onsite clinicians and junior medical officers are empowered to make quick, confident decisions while learning from some of the best in the business.

This hybrid model optimises both the indispensable onsite clinicians and telehealth. Onsite SMOs are relieved of one part of the pressure on them - and junior doctors gain a reliable, timely sounding board.

Objective decision validation reduces risk of error and unnecessary investigations and admissions. And faster attendance to patients means less waiting and better health outcomes.

Improved operational efficiency keeps patients and staff safe. It promotes adherence to best practice, enables timely surge management, and maintains efficient patient flow.

We pride ourselves on providing friendly, expert support. Our FACEMs are experienced teaching doctors who take joy in helping to educate and empower emergency medicine colleagues. Although we’re on-screen we work hard to become a valued extension of the onsite team.
