Dr Leanne Toney graduated from medical school in Northern Ireland in 2002 and, after working there for a few years, came to the Southern Hemisphere. She first went to Australia then crossed the ditch to Aotearoa New Zealand – she has now practiced medicine here for many years. Dr Toney specialises in emergency medicine and has experience working in both smaller regional and large tertiary hospitals in Aotearoa. She is a Co-Director of Emergency Medicine Training (Co-DEMT) at Christchurch for the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM), where she is involved in the welfare and training of emergency medicine doctors in training. Dr Toney has also worked as a post graduate medical supervisor for the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ). Her special interests within the ED include equitable healthcare, staff wellbeing and education. Outside work of she enjoys the outdoors, particularly tramping, skiing or any water-based activity with her family, as well as reading, languages and travel.
