STEPS TO COMPLETE A FIRE EVACUATION SCHEME
To complete a fire evacuation scheme will require a basic knowledge of the following.
·         The Fire Safety and Evacuation of Buildings Regulations 2006.
·         The Fire Service Act 1975 Section 21A.
·         The Health and Safety in Employment Act and Regulations.
·         NZ Standard 9232:1991 Model By Law for the prevention of fire and panic in Cinemas, Theatres, and Places of Assembly, if a scheme is being prepared for conference centres, cinemas and theatres and places where more than 100 people gather for a common purpose.
·         Building Act, and other relative documents relating to fire, e.g. minimum requirements,  spread of fire, escape from fire, occupancy rates, Smoke and Exit door requirements and other matters related to fire as applicable.
If you are a cown business you will need to have any emergency planning compatable with the civil Defence and Emergency Management Act 2004.

STEPS TO APPROVE A FIRE EVACUATION SCHEME
After initial contact with Emergency Consultancy we arrange a visit to:
·         develop an outline design for your evacuation scheme.
·         walk through your building(s) to assess and report on any building design concerns and fire warning systems in the building,
·         discuss any Building Warrant of Fitness implications,
·         We look at the Means of Escape, Fire Smoke and Exit doors, etc and discuss how to keep these up to the standard required.
·         other matters applicable to the scheme.
This visit takes about 1 – 2 hours and our aim is to get your scheme to about 75% completion.
At the conclusion of our visit, your evacuation scheme should be about 70% complete.
We then finalise the draft evacuation scheme and application forms, and send them to the client for checking and return to Emergency Consultancy Ltd for finalising.
Training
The Fire Wardens must be able to carry out theis job to the standard required.  See training pages in this web site. 
A certificate of accomplishment is issued to the all Wardens who complet our multi choice question paper at the end of our courses.  Each client company receives proof of training documentation to confirm the trraining.
Testing the Scheme
Normally clients like to hold a trial run of the scheme before the Fire Service visit to approve the scheme.
Fire Service Visit
Before approving your evacuation scheme, the Fire Service must call.  We will have check all the points they want to check.
They will look at how you use your building, maintenance of the fire related equipment, and observe a full trial of the evacuation scheme.  If they have no concerns the Fire Service will send you a letter approving your evacuation scheme. 
To keep the approved status of your scheme, regular 6 monthly trials or emergency evacuations are required to be held and documented. 
Ongoing Maintenance of your Evacuation Scheme or Procedures
Then we can on your behalf:
  • Provide training to new Wardens.
  •  Provide additional training to existing Wardens to expand their skills.
  • Ensure the evacuation scheme is tested at least 6 monthly form any previous trial or real activation, and ensure the same standard as observed as the Fire Service approved.
  • We report to you on any points of concern with the process, building or equipment maintenance.
  • We provide a report to be circulated among the Wardens on how they performed, and points of concern.
  • Submit the documentation to the Fire Service with copies sent to the client for filing in their records.
  • Follow up any outstanding matters.
