Our training courses are totally portable and provided both at a clients premises or a hired training room.  All courses dovetail into other work provided by the consultancy.  However all of our courses can be equally effective when used as a standalone course for clients wanting to qualify evacuation wardens or provide refresher training for their evacuation or emergncy wardens.

Fire Evacuation Wardens Course (Commercial Businesses)

 

The course provides new and existing Fire and Evacuation Wardens with the skills and information to satisfy the requirements of the Fire Safety and Evacuation of Buildings Regulations and the Health and Safety Act and Regulations.  This course is equally applicable to Building Wardens, Site Wardens, Area or Floor Wardens, all Deputy Wardens, and staff likely to be appointed as Wardens.
 
The Fire Service was consulted during the development of this course to ensure it complies with current evacuation requirements.

 

Course Size:    

Minimum charges apply where less than 6 students attend. Classes of 50 have been taught but this is limited to student comfort, room size, and students being able to see the whiteboard information.

Legal requirements.
Minimum standards.
Keeping buildings safe for occupants.
How the client’s evacuation scheme works.
Staff roles and responsibilities during evacuation.
How our "Heads Up" saves lives and improves accounting for people.
Various Evacuation Warden roles and responsibilities.

Basic theory on how to use a Fire Extinguisher.
Staff procedures and our “Heads Up” procedure for accounting for people.

 

Where time permits the following is included free of charge

Instruction on specific evacuation points applicable to the work place, and/or
Case studies from real events to enhance the instruction.

 

Course Duration:  

1.5 hours including passing a multi-choice paper at the conclusion of the course.

 

Course Administration:

Students complete a multi-choice questionnaire and if achieving the pass mark receive a Certificate of Achievement. 
 
Clients receive written confirmation of staff training in a format acceptable to inspection agencies.
 
This course can be taught in either a clients facilities or a public training or seminar facility.

 

One important feature is the course can be taught where power and whiteboards are not available.

Fire Evacuation Wardens Course (Entertainment Industry)

 

This course provides the information and skills to satisfy the following legislative requirements
Fire Safety and Evacuation of Buildings Regulations,
NZ Standard 9232 Precautions against fire and panic in Cinemas, Theatres and Places of Assembly.  Basic skills only.
The Health and Safety Statute and Regulations.

 

We designed this course to provide the evacuation warden skills to staff also employed as, Front of House, Back Stage, Technical, Security, and Administration staff with evacuation warden duties at an entertainment or conference centre, school or venue where more than 100 people are present for a common purpose.

 

The Fire Service was consulted during the development of this course to ensure it complies with current evacuation requirements.

 

Course Size:    

Minimum classes of 1 can be accommodated but a minimum charge of 6 people applies.
Maximum classes of 50 have been taught but this is limited to student comfort, room size etc.

Using the 111 system correctly now the Emergency Services use call centres.

How a client’s building evacuation scheme should work.

Basic crowd control in an emergency.

Information applicable to evacuation wardens from reports of real building evacuations.

Fire Evacuation Refresher Course/Workshop
 
These courses are provided at a companies own location of rented venue.  Generally courses are specific to a clients premises and include:
 
A review of the evacuation procedures including preformance standards applicable.
Results of new research applicable to the clients location.
Changes to legislation applicable to the clients.
Question and answer session answering evacuation wardenbs concerns and issues.
 
Course Duration:   Generally from 45 minumtes to 1 hour.
Venue:                  Clients training or meeting room.
 
 
Evacuation Refresher Course - Internet
 
This training is only suitable for businesses or students who have access to the internet.  Clients wishing to use this training provide
Emergncy Consultancy with the names and email addresses of the students, plus an order number.  Our staff email each person back with a token to use to open the learning site.
 
Advantages for clients
  • Staff train during down times during normal work routines.
  • Each question paper is randomally selected from a 300 question bank.
  • Incase a student gets interupted we have a dely in the programme.  Once a student opens a test they must touch the computere within 15 minutes or it closes and a further token must be purchased.
  • Each token purchased remains live for 1 month.  This sometimes can be extended to three months should it be required.
  • Two students working alongside each other are not provided with the same questions.
  • If a student has selected the same question twice, the milti choice answer is in a diferent location to the previous question.
  • If a question is answered wrong, the student is not given the next question until they have watched a short video explaining the correct answer.
  • Each question paper has been tested to take 10 - 18 minutes per student.
  • Before closing the test paper the student gets the results on the screen.  Emergency Consultancy get an evaluated copy of the test paper.  The computer can call on questions similar questions worded differently should it detect hesitation.
  • We can recommend area where additional training could be required, e.g. fire extinguisher training, warden skills refresher course.

Fire Extinguisher Familiarization Course
 
This course meets the need of those employers who want to give their staff the elementary skills required to use a fire extinguisher successfully.

 

Course Size:    

Minimum course size 5 people.
Maximum of 16 people per course.

 

Course Venue:

This is a portable course and is most often provided at the clients premises.  A video/TV session is included in the course.

 

As the course involves the practical use of fire extinguishers, it is not practical to hold these courses inside workplace buildings.  Company car parks, open fields, and unused warehouses are examples of suitable places.

 

Subjects Include:  Depending on the types of portable Fire Extinguishers available in the workplace the course includes:

Identifying the common types of portable extinguishers.
Instruction on the correct use of portable extinguishers.
Under supervision use portable fire extinguishers.
Foam and Water extinguishers can be included.

 

Course Cost:    

Costs are dependant on the number of students and the type of extinguishers used.

Safety Warden Qualificatiion Course

 

Course Aim:

To provide managers of Cinemas, Theatres, and Conference Centres with qualified staff to the standard for Safety Wardens under the NZ Standard 9232:1991 and amendments, plus any conditions of fire evacuation schemes approved for the building or complex.

 

This course has two parts to the qualification.  Students must complete both a practical and theory paper to pass the course, before an application is made to the Fire Service to approve the qualification.

 

Course Size:

Minimum course size of 3 people.

Maximum course size is 25 people.

Minimum sizes of less than 3 can be provided but an additional charged is made.

 

Course Cost:

Course costs can vary but are around $125 per student plus GST.

 

Course Duration:

This course requires a full 3 hours to complete the syllabus.

 

Course Venue:

Wherever possible this course is taught in the premises of the client.  The only requirements are:

Training room or similar for tuition and video.

An area to use portable fire extinguishers.

 

Course Administration:

Each student receives two certificates.

One for completing the instruction course.

One qualification issued by the Fire Service on satisfactorily completing both test papers.

 

Subjects Include:

Preferably this course is specific to a venue or a group of buildings managed by the employing company.  Each course includes venue specific information based around the common core
  • Fire growth in occupied venues including understanding flashover and back draught fire conditions.
  • Legal aspects of the legislation and regulations.
  • Building Warrant of Fitness requirements.
  • Venue responsibilities of the venue manager.
  • Safety Wardens responsibilities before and during events.
  • Means of Escape paths and clearways.
  • Pre opening checks and log books.
  • Preventing panic in public buildings.
  • Overcrowding.
  • Classes of Fire and which portable fire extinguisher to use.
